Jeff Immelt served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of General Electric (GE) from 2001 to 2017, leading the company through transformation into a simpler, stronger, and more focused digital industrial enterprise. During his 16-year tenure, he revamped GE’s strategy, global footprint, workforce, and culture. Prior to becoming CEO, Jeff held several global leadership roles across GE’s plastics, appliances, and healthcare businesses, including President and CEO of GE Medical Systems and General Manager of GE Plastics Americas.
In 2018, Jeff joined New Enterprise Associates (NEA) as a Venture Partner, where he works with innovative growth companies in healthcare, industrial automation, clean tech, and IoT. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board for athenahealth, sits on the boards of Radiology Partners and Arkestro, and remains deeply engaged in supporting the next generation of leaders and innovators.
Jeff has been recognized as one of Barron’s “World’s Best CEOs” three times and has received fifteen honorary degrees along with numerous awards for business leadership. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences and previously chaired the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness under the Obama administration. Jeff earned a B.A. in Applied Mathematics from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from Harvard University.
